Unthinkable...

The pictures here are all from the remains of Chamber/Crematorium #1. There were, I think, 3 of these, but the rubble of 1 and 2 were not in a condition to make exploration easy. What follows here, then, are photographs of a combined operation where people would enter down stairs into a chamber to be gassed with Zyclone B poison, and then fed to incinerators at the back of the chamber for disposal of their bodies. In order to prevent panic or attempted revolt, the SS told the people who had been selected for execution that they were being directed to the chambers for a cursory de-lousing procedure (given in the form of a “shower”). Once inside, the doors were shut, the gas turned on, and after several minutes, groups of prisoners conscripted for the purpose of removal of the bodies, fed them into crematoria that were on the opposite end of the “shower”.

Pictures here show the crematorium, and the long, trench-like swimming-pool hole would have been the gas chamber. I also took a picture of the steps that would have led downward into the chamber, though there was a chain to prevent you from actually accessing or descending into it.
