Aren’t languages funny?
Take this German advertisement I saw in one of the concourses at the
Munich airport.
They put a silkily dressed woman with some jewelry on it, and then the brand name “Frey Wille” (as though the name says it all, I suppose…or maybe it really does here in
Munich, I don’t know).
Problem:
rather than being impressed with a massive sense of urgency to need to purchase the trinkets the woman is so languidly displaying, I instead crack up with laughter as images of leaping Killer Whales and bad 1990’s kid’s movies with endless sequels parade through my head.
Frey Wille indeed!
Probably not exactly the effect that the advertisers would be looking for.
